Love at first date: Half of Britons find the love of their life after just one meeting (and it's the men that fall the quickest)
25% of men admitted to falling in love at first sight
A further 29% were smitten after the first date
Women take longer to fall, with only one in five infatuated at first glance
One in 20 men have tried to impress boasting about their 'sexual prowess'
A third of men are turned off someone if their travel adventures are lacking
81% agreed that taking a first holiday together was a huge milestone
They say that true love is hard to find in this modern day.
But not according to the latest study, which has revealed that a staggering 50 per cent of us have actually been struck down by Cupid's arrow after just one date.
The new survey found that Britain is a nation of romantics, with half of us saying we found the love of our life by the end of the first date together.
The research also reveals that men fall in love quicker than women, with exactly a quarter of men saying they were head over heels in love at first sight, and a further 29 per cent becoming hooked after spending just a single date with their new woman.
But females aren’t quite as quick to decide: they are more likely to judge potential partners on personality and interests, rather than looks.
Only one in five were infatuated after first laying eyes on their man verses one in three after a first date - so to woo a woman, it would seem good conversation is key.
Of those talking points, the most popular first date topic of conversation, named by over 40 per cent across both sexes, is travel.
The report revealed that travel plays an important role in our quest for love - not only do we love to talk about holidays when we’re dating, but one in three are more attracted to someone based on their travel experiences and stories.
In fact, one in ten is also prepared to lie about the places they’ve travelled to just to impress a date.
In terms of first date turn-off’s, what goes on at that first date is a deciding factor between the sexes - and first date topics of conversation can be a minefield.
A confident one in 20 men have tried to impress a first date by boasting about their 'sexual prowess', and a similar number of women have run the risk of scaring off a guy by raising the prickly subject of marriage and children.
Safer subjects named in the research by both sexes include work (39 per cent), music (41 per cent) and favourite films or TV programmes (39 per cent).
Almost a third of men have been turned off someone because their travel adventures are lacking, boring or different to their own.
Whilst half of us fall in love after the first date, for one in ten, it was love at first flight as the realisation only dawned when they took their first holiday together.
A huge 81 per cent agreed that taking a first holiday together was a huge milestone in a relationship, found the survey by Expedia.
It seems that holidays tell us more about a person than meeting the parents, or meeting their friends as just 2 per cent and 5 per cent respectively highlighted these as the pivotal moments in a successful relationship.
Now the question left to ask is have you ever fallen in love at first sight?
